Zonta Bunbury Youth Celebration
Supported by a 2025 Volunteer Week Grant

On Friday, 23 May 2025, the Zonta Club of Bunbury proudly hosted a special celebration, bringing together the region’s two Z Clubs: Kingia Z Club from Bunbury Senior High School and Geographe Bay Z Club from Busselton Senior High School, as well as students from Manea Senior College in Bunbury, who are planning to form a Z Club.

Zonta Z Clubs are student-led clubs designed to empower high school students through leadership development, career exploration, and meaningful service at school, in their community, and internationally. Each Z Club operates within its local school, guided by a school coordinator and supported by the sponsoring Zonta Club—in this case, the Zonta Club of Bunbury.

The event celebrated the inspiring volunteer work being undertaken by these young leaders. The day’s program included:

-
Student Presentations: Each group shared highlights of their current and past volunteer activities and service projects.
-
Team Leadership Activity: Students from different schools worked together, fostering connection, communication, and teamwork.
-
Grazing Table Lunch: A relaxed and social meal break that encouraged mingling and informal conversations.
-
Challenge and Inspiration Workshop: Students brainstormed causes they are passionate about and explored ways to make a positive impact.
The celebration was honoured by the attendance of Area 3 Director Kimberley Robbins, District 23 Z and Golden Z Club Coordinator Tyril Houghton, and Club President Amanda Whittle. School Z Club coordinating teachers Almarie January, Dee Shade and Susan Main and a dedicated group of Zonta members also participated, offering guidance, encouragement, and mentorship throughout the day.

Our appreciation to Volunteering WA, Lotterywest and National Volunteer Week 2025 for a grant to support this celebration.
A special thank you to Bunbury Zonta member Kerry Kerr, who submitted a successful application for the 2025 Volunteer Week grant and along with Tyril Houghton and the three school coordinators, played a key role in planning and supporting the day’s activities.

Birthing Kit Assembly Day

With kit items purchased from the Birthing Kit Foundation (Australia), members of the Zonta Bunbury Club, Kingia Z Club, and community supporters came together on the 7th June for a productive afternoon, assembling 600 birthing kits.
The Birthing Kit Foundation (Australia) is a humanitarian organisation dedicated to providing essential birthing kits and educating women in remote regions of the developing world about clean birthing practices.

Since February 2005, the Zonta Club of Bunbury has worked with the Birthing Kit Foundation (Australia) and, over the past 20 years, has assembled 21,200 kits.
A heartfelt thank you to all who participated in this year’s assembly day, with special recognition to Carol Carter, our club’s Birthing Kit Project Coordinator, for her leadership.
Community Breast Cushion Day
Proudly sponsored by

On May 17th, the Zonta Club of Bunbury hosted a highly successful collaborative event to create breast care cushions, with 50 volunteers making 141 cushions.

With the support of an Aqwest community grant, the event brought together community volunteers from Bunbury and surrounding shires to work alongside Zonta Club members in a shared effort to increase the club’s stock of breast care cushions. These cushions are distributed through McGrath Breast Care Nurses and donated to individuals who have undergone breast surgery, offering much-needed comfort and protection during their recovery.

Some of the volunteers had personal connections to the cause, either having received cushions themselves or knowing others who had benefited from them. These connections inspired a deep sense of giving back.

In appreciation of their hard work, Zonta Bunbury President Amanda Whittle thanked the volunteers and invited them to enjoy a light lunch before they returned home.

We acknowledge and thank Chris Durrant, our club's breast cushion coordinator, for her wonderful leadership.
